Bethlehem Lutheran School Celebrates Dia de los Muertos with Vibrant and Meaningful Traditions
Bethlehem Lutheran School is proud to announce the successful celebration of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) this year,
as part of our ongoing commitment to embracing and honoring diverse cultural traditions within our school community. The event, held on November 1st,
brought together students, staff, and families to celebrate the rich heritage of Mexican culture through art, music, storytelling, and reflection.
Dia de los Muertos is a joyful celebration of life and remembrance, a time for families to honor their loved ones who have passed away.
At Bethlehem Lutheran School, we focused on teaching students the significance of the holiday and its customs, emphasizing the importance of remembrance,
community, and the celebration of life.
Event Highlights:
- Ofrendas (Altars): Students and faculty worked together to create colorful and meaningful altars in memory of departed loved ones,
featuring traditional items such as marigolds, candles, photographs, and favorite foods.
- Art Projects: Our students embraced the opportunity to explore the symbolism of Dia de los Muertos through hands-on art projects,
including creating papel picado (cut paper) decorations and designing their own calavera (skull) artwork.
- Music and Dance: The event featured traditional music and dance performances,
allowing students to appreciate the joyful and celebratory spirit of the holiday.
Bethlehem Lutheran School's celebration of Dia de los Muertos is an important part of our commitment to fostering cultural awareness and inclusivity.
We believe that by learning about and celebrating the diverse traditions that make up our world, we help nurture a compassionate, open-minded,
and globally aware community.
"We are so grateful to our students, faculty, and families for embracing this opportunity to learn and celebrate Dia de los Muertos together,"
said Mary Kandilian, Director of Bethlehem Lutheran School.
"It was a wonderful experience that helped our students connect with the rich cultural
heritage of this holiday while also honoring the memories of those who came before us."
Bethlehem Lutheran School remains dedicated to creating a learning environment that values diversity and promotes respect, understanding, and kindness.
